Gerontology?
|
Growing Old Gently and Gracefully
Gerontology is generally translated into Japanese as rojinngaku (using the Chinese characters for "elderly," "person," and "study".) In short, it is the study of anything relating to elderly people. To go into more detail, it can be divided into physiological, psychological, and social fields.
Physiological field: As we grow older, the functions of our internal organs and physical strength begin to decline and we cannot do things that we were able to do before. Physiological studies examine aging from the perspective of the internal part of the body.
Psychological field: In general, as we grow older, we are more frequently unable to balance ourselves emotionally and physically. Psychological studies examine aging from a psychological perspective.
Social field: Social studies examine whether society as a whole is prepared for the super aging society that we are entering.

NCSA's Perspective on Gerontology is Soreigaku
|
Nippon Care-Fit Service Association meets the various problems that rojingaku faces from head on. We aim at creating an environment where active elderly people can go out and enjoy life. Gerontology will change from rojingaku to soreigaku (using the Chinese characters for "create", "age", and "study".) Soreigaku studies how to create a way of growing older gently and gracefully. Each and every one of us needs this in order to not fear aging, accept it, and coexist in society.
